We are a Martial Arts and Wrestling School instructed by Coach Harry West. Winner of the Savannah Morning News "Best of the Coastal Empire", for best Martial Arts School in the area. We offer a variety of classes for both adults and children including basic, fundamental, and advanced Jiu-Jitsu, Grappling, and Wrestling. Students learn how to attack, defend, and escape in every position. We ensure that every student establishes a deep understanding of Jiu-Jitsu through the core concepts and ideas of the sport. We practice crucial techniques, positional studies, and mindset building. Our school's members train hard to rise in level and prepare for future competitions such as the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation in Atlanta, the Newbreed Ultimate Challenge, and the American Grappling Federation. No-Gi Programs are offered in both fundamental and advanced classes, where students have the opportunity to learn how to adapt Jiu-Jitsu techniques to No-Gi situations. Classes range from ages 4 years and up. A Wrestling Club is offered for students ages 5 and up. During these sessions, we teach wrestling techniques and prepare students for local, state, and national wrestling tournaments. Open Mat sessions are offered for adult training. About Coach Harry West
Originally from Alabama, Professor West began his wrestling and grappling career over 32 years ago. Being an avid athlete, he excelled in the sport of Wrestling and won three high school state championships. This ensured his collegiate wrestling career in the state of Missouri. After competing nationally, he joined the Army and wrestled in Europe, obtaining the United States European (USAEUR) and United States Armed Forces (USAF) championship wrestling titles.
During his time in the military, Professor West trained in the Modern Army Combative's program, achieving the level 3 certification. This was integral to helping him find his passion for the art of Jiu-Jitsu. The Combative's Program infuses hand-to-hand combat with grappling, and he found a natural connection with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Harry began his long journey with Jiu-Jitsu 15 years ago.
Professor West is now a Black Belt under Scott Devine who is a Third Degree Black Belt under 9th Degree Red/Black Belt Master Relson Gracie. Professor West has competed multiple times, garnering first place finishes through all belt levels in Gi and No-Gi. His current titles include Gold Medalist in the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) in Miami, Atlanta, and New York securing over 24 IBJJF placed medals including the Gold Medal for the 2019 No Gi Pan in NYC.
Throughout his Jiu-Jitsu career, Professor West developed a strong passion for teaching and is now a wrestling coach at Benedictine Military school here in Savannah. Even though he is a Professor of Jiu Jitsu he still loves to be called "Coach" especially in the capacity of wrestling. He spent 4 years prior at Savannah Arts Academy as their Wrestling Coach taking both teams to State as well as many individual wrestlers to the state level. Coach Harry has taught many wrestling clinics throughout the coastal empire. He was also an official referee for Coastal Officials Association for 5 years. Through his coaching, reffing, and networking experiences, he found that there was a need for Jiu-Jitsu, Grappling, and Wrestling instruction in the city. He is unique with fusing these two grappling arts to elevate a competitors potential. He started a kids' program with the hopes of spreading grappling knowledge in the community, as it is important in keeping the grappling sports alive. To date, it has been successful and still continues to grow. Coach Harry currently lives in the Savannah, Georgia area with his wife, Raquel (BJJ Brown belt, Black belt in Tae Kwon Do). They have been married for 23 years and have three children who train as well.
